A long time ago in a haberdashery far, far away….

Episode IV

There is NO Hope

A long time ago in a haberdashery far, far away….

It is a period of No Hope.  Renegade garments, striking from a hidden drawer, have won their first victory against the whimpering seamstress.

Yes, yes, you’re right.  It’s a bit of an obvious frame for this, the Fourth chapter, of Me-Made-May makeovers.  At least I didn’t post it on May the Fourth.  It was nearly entitled May The Fourth (Chapter) Be With You.  Pretty tragic I know.  Let’s not mention it again.  On with the clothes:

A charity shop dress that had been adjusted by another’s hands before it fell into my sticky paws whence I added some not entirely successful straps.  That’s some pretty ugly pit podginess if it’s not too early in our relationship to talk about underarms.

And the sure fire indicator of un-success?  Not worn since this outing for MMMay12.

You can’t say that I rushed into this makeover.

Off with the straps, out with some pencil skirt pattern pieces.

Ta da.  Maybe not destined to be lobbed off a sail barge into a sarlacc pit.  Yet.

Next?  I think that you might be surprised to see this in my cross-hairs.

She is hidden under that jacket somewhere.  I dunno, she was just.   A bit uncomfortable.  I couldn’t get on with that sleeve length at all.

What did I do?  Well, I hacked about a shirt pattern from Burda Easy Spring/Summer 2013.  I cut the back piece in one with the yoke which worked well.  What didn’t work quite as I intended was cutting the front of the shirt from the front of the tunic.  The original opening fell awkwardly and necessitated a re-jig of the centre front and collar.  Oh, and it runs a bit short so I added about 6 cms to the length.

You can just about catch the collar area in this shot.  It’s not quite what I intended but it’s something with which I can learn to  live, given time.  I am such a stoic.

Not perfect, but most certainly more Leia than Jabba.   “Great Shot kid. Don’t get cocky!”

*I win!  For the rules of Yellow Car seek out Cabin Pressure, Ottery St. Mary.
